October is Non-GMO Month

Non GMO InfographicHappy Non-GMO Month! Every October, Harvest Market proudly joins the North American campaign against genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) and offer additional educational and promotional activities for our customers.

What’s a GMO?

Genetically modified organisms are living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. This relatively new science creates unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacteria and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods. Read more about the basics of GMO’s here.

The Non-GMO Project

Harvest Market is a proud Supporting Retailer of the Non-GMO Project, whose orange monarch butterfly symbol graces many of our products, and whose job it is to independently certify foods as GMO-free. The Non-GMO Project provides us with a variety of resources and an awesome “Living Non-GMO” website.

Halloween in Hockessin

During Halloween in Hockessin, Saturday, Oct. 28, we welcome hundreds of costumed kids (and their guardians) inside the store for Trick or Treating. On this day, we will donate 5% of sales to The Non-GMO Project. Customers who spend more than $50 will get a Non-GMO Project reusable grocery bag, while supplies last.

Thanks for your enthusiasm as we educate ourselves and our community about building a better food system!
