I’ve always loved makeup. When I was little, I’d watch my mom applying her makeup with intense fascination. When I was old enough to wear makeup, I was always trying out different looks. In high school, I expanded my horizons and learned how to do theater makeup, and I was always doing this friend or that friend’s makeup for this special event or that special event. There’s a plethora of cosmetic companies in existence nowadays, and with the addition of the world wide web, access to makeup options are never-ending. It was an oasis of colors, shimmers, and mattes with endless possibilities, my ultimate playground…until the day I heard that breast cancer diagnosis …and a month later, it was followed by a diagnosis of BRCA2, a genetic mutation of an estrogen-seeking cancer gene.
*insert the sound of screeching tires here*
Saying my world was turned upside down is an understatement. Learning I was at risk for several other cancers forced me to rethink every aspect of my life, from diet to environment to my beauty products. One of the most important, life-saving morsels I learned early on was to avoid any product with parabens or paraffins like the plague. These preservatives mimic estrogen in the body. Welp…there goes every product I used on my hair and skin! Those pesky poisons were in everything!
Drumroll please for the entrance of Mineral Fusion! It was one of the very first makeup companies I learned about that was safe for me to use (and they even had nail polish that was safe for me to use!). However, just because it was safe didn’t mean I was going to like it… was I going to like the colors or how it went on? Would it last? Would it feel good on my skin? Were there any fun color options?
I was excited to discover the answer to all the above questions was a sparkling YES!
Blushes, bronzers, and shimmers. Eye shadow, eye liner, and mascara. Lipstick, lip tint, lip gloss. Smoky eye. Natural glow. Simple and sweet. Dark and daring. Once again the possibilities were endless! And safe.
How do I know Mineral Fusion is so safe? Thanks to the wonderful website of the Environmental Working Group (EWG), “a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to protecting human health and the environment”. Through their website (and now their cell phone app!) anyone can look up just about any product and get a breakdown of the ingredients and the safety rating of the ingredients. EWG offers ratings of 1-10 with 1-2 being Low Hazard, 3-6 being Moderate Hazard, and 7-10 being High Hazard.
For example, EWG scientists reviewed Mineral Fusion Waterproof Raven Mascara. They assessed the ingredients listed on the label based on data in toxicity and regulatory databases, government and health agency assessments and the open scientific literature. EWG’s rating for Mineral Fusion Mascara, Waterproof Raven is 2.
One more thing: Mineral Fusion’s nail polish colors are as awesome as their makeup colors! They go on beautifully and they last.
I recommend Mineral Fusion (and EWG!) to everyone I know. Are YOU ready to try Mineral Fusion?
