When thinking of ways as individuals to green up our daily habits, we also thought about Harvest Market and all the ways in which we are already eco-friendly. We also thought of some more ways to improve our practices and lessen our carbon footprint on the Earth. The following is a list of what we already do, and what we are planning to do in the near future...
Here at Harvest Market, we currently:
- Only buy recycled printer paper
- Frequently use the backs of printed paper for lists, scrap paper and print-outs
- Save the remnants of the credit card rolls for scrap paper
- Only use recycled paper products in our bathrooms, kitchen and on countertops
- Have recycle bins located throughout the store so staff can easily recycle as much paper as possible
- Use washable cotton hand towels instead of paper towels whenever possible
- Use only Earth-friendly cleaning products in the store
- Use less electricity than most stores: Our outside lighting is on timers and we have shorter than average operational hours.
- Use/purchase corn-plastic olive containers and take-away utensils
- Use/buy refurbished shopping carts
In the near future we will be:
- Replacing lighting fixtures to be more energy efficient
- Adding motion sensors to light bulbs in our bathrooms and stock room
- Installing open cooler covers to reduce energy waste during off hours
- Our Community Outreach Committee is actively working to donate as much food as possible to avoid waste
