I am someone who not only wants, but needs to be very careful about the skin products I buy. I have two boys: Jonah is six and Judah is ten months. My dear boy Jonah is fair skinned like his mama, and also acquired the trait of very sensitive skin….also like his mama! This is a trait that I believe was handed down by my mother, who is allergic to any gold of a lesser karat than 24. She breaks out in hives. I have never been a big fan of wearing gold, nor do I have the sensitivity to inferior metals touching my skin. Thank goodness for that! I have however, always been a fan of health and beauty products, and found out about my sensitivities the hard way: by breaking out in hives practically at the mere sight of any unclean products! Even some organic products out there are not gentle enough for our skin. Now this has been a blessing and a curse. Though we are limited as to what we can use on our skin, we also are only able to use the cleanest, most pure, “best of the best” products! I especially love this because it gives me the viable excuse to buy lots of Hauschka products. Jonah’s skin is even more sensitive than my own. I am guessing the babe will be similar, and am at least playing it safe with him. After all, babies have sensitive skin to begin with. I have never been able to use any sunscreen besides Dr. Hauschka on Jonah’s skin. It’s been the only one that does not give him any irritation and works extremely well. Imagine the dismay when I was at Harvest Market stocking up for things for our trip to sunny Florida a few weeks ago only to find that Dr. Hauschka will be discontinuing their sunscreen line! (By the way, see a staff member or check their website for those details if you’re curious, I didn’t get the whole story) One of the girls suggested a new product brought in as a request by one of our customers. It is called Soleo Organics All Natural Sunscreen. I looked at the label and was instantly curious. Originally formulated in Australia. They know a thing or two about sunscreen. The ingredients are really clean, and the label says it is free of chemical UV absorbers, titanium dioxide and synthetic preservatives. All of which are prerequisites for us anyhow. The thing that really caught my eye was the claim that it would not leave my skin white! Call me vain if you will, but I am a sun worshipper at heart, and looking like an alien while sitting on the beach is not very appealing to me! So, I tossed it into my cart and decided that I would keep it simple. One tube of sunscreen for the whole family to use.
Wow. That Florida Keys sunshine is strong, especially in April when we’ve just started to come back out of our dark winter nest! I slathered us up and off we went to go swimming. I was extremely pleased at how well it worked. I did not look like the tin man, and none of us got even a lick of sunburn (ok, except for a quarter sized spot where I obviously missed on the first day!) It did a good job even while we were in the water. And I was able to put it on my face without any break-outs. I have now used it many times and it is working wonderfully. There is not even much of a scent which I can really appreciate. If you have children, sensitive skin, or just plain want a really effective, clean and natural sunscreen, I highly recommend Soleo! They have a really nice website you can visit if you want more information on the product and the company. Soleousa.com
